Hymn to the Soul (A Manichaean Gnostic Liturgical Hymn in Parthian.)
… Worthy are you of salvation.
To you, oh Soul of Light, will I give much counsel,
so that you may attain redemption.
Come, oh souls, to this ship of Light!
My most beloved soul, who is happy and noble,
where have you gone? Return!
Awake, dear soul, from the sleep of drunkenness
into which you have fallen!
Look upon the foes, see how they prepare death all around you!
Reach your home, the heavenly realm created by the Word,
Where you were in the beginning.
The Traveler of the Subtle Inner Path
Many Sants like Sant Tulsi Das, Goswami Lakshminath Paramhans, Sant Kabir, Sahib Surdas Ji, Sant Tukaram Ji, and Shri Maharshi Mehi unanimously pronounce that all human beings — irrespective of gender, age, occupation, and race — have an equal right to follow the inner path to the Divine. This view is verifiable by the fact that many Sants and sages, including Sant Kabir, Sant Ravidas, Sant Garibdas were born in ‘lower castes’ and in the lower strata of their society. Many ancient sages like Vyasa and Narada also have unusual births. Sant Tulsidas emphasizes that physical conditions, including birth in lower caste, poverty, and a lack of bodily beauty do not inhibit the progress of the soul. Sants declare that we are all children of one Supreme Being, God. This Divine Being is all compassionate and generous and does not have preference for any persons on the basis of their birth, class, or gender. However, there are certain disciplines all seekers must follow in order to tread this inner path to realize the Divine. According to Maharshi Mehi, “There are a number of necessary observances required to tread the spiritual path.”
Observances: Complete faith in one Divine Being, determination to realize the Divine within, service to the guru, satsang (association of the Sants and the study of scriptures), and steadfast meditation. Prohibitions: Use of intoxicants, practice of adultery, lying, violence (causing suffering to other beings, eating the flesh of animals), and stealing…
Thus, scriptures and Sant literature offer guidelines with regard to disciplines and prohibitions. According to these writings, an untouchable (chandala) who is devoted to the service of the Supreme Being is superior to a Brahmin (a person from the priestly class). Such a chandala with his/her devotion and dedication to the Supreme Being purifies the entire clan.
According to the Dharmashastras (Law Books), “all are born shudras (the lowest caste).” (One rises upward through the inward spiritual journey.) The caste system is based according to one’s qualities, actions, and samskaras (imprints left on the soul due to previous or past life experiences). The reality is, social status, birth, or social class (caste) does not determine the quality of a person; but, rather, one’s comportment determines one’s true status (i.e. caste). Death is a great equalizer. At the time of death, when the soul leaves the body it becomes isolated from all that was connected to the body, including relatives, sons and daughters, caste and status, wealth and wisdom, honor and power. Then, why discriminate against other human beings on the basis of these transitory, material things?
The inner path is accessible to all human beings, but certain disciplines, as cataloged above, are to be followed as also prescribed by the Sants for entering this path. An observance of these disciplines is absolutely essential for the seekers of Divine Reality.
O seeker, if you want to become a pilgrim on the spiritual path then do not transgress the disciplines and rules prescribed by the Sants and scriptures! Without following these necessary provisions and disciplines you will not be able to travel upon this inward journey, and will not attain success in achieving the highest goal.
— Swami Vyasanand Ji Maharaj, from the chapter titled, The Traveler of the Subtle Inner Path, in the new book, The Inward Journey of the Soul (Chal Hansa Nij Desh)
Krishna — Gita: The Power Between the Eye-brows — Third Eye — The Seat of the Soul:
9 He who remembers the Poet, the Creator, who rules all
10 things from all time, smaller than the smallest atom, but upholding this vast universe, who shines like the sun beyond darkness, far far beyond human thought; and at the time of his departure is in union of love and the power of Yoga and, with a mind that wanders not, keeps the power of his life between his eye-brows, he goes to that Spirit Supreme, the Supreme Spirit of light.
11 Hear now of that Path which the seers of the Veda call the Eternal, and which is reached by those who, in peace from earthly passions, live a life of holiness and strive for perfection.
12 If when a man leaves his earthly body he is in the silence of Yoga and, closing the doors of the soul, he keeps the mind in his heart, and places in the head the breath of life,
Sound — The Word
13 And remembering me he utters OM, the eternal WORD of Brahman, he goes to the Path Supreme.
The Seat of the Soul, Third Eye Center: "The soul is pure and therefore by nature still. Due to stillness, the soul is eternal. Therefore, Lord Krishna advises that the mind should be connected to the soul. Self-realization is the objective and the goal of all human life. But where can we obtain this goal? The answer is within one’s heart. By heart is not meant the physical heart, but rather the heart of the inner Self. This is called by the Sants the yoga-heart (innermost Self). It is in this space in which the mind is linked to the soul. The Sants have described this place with many names such as: ‘the sky portal’, the ‘tenth gate’, the ‘point’, ‘window’, ‘the lotus flower’, ‘Sushumna’, ‘Ajna Chakra’, ‘third eye’, ‘center of the eyebrows’, ‘bindu’, etc…" (Swami Vyasanand, The Inward Journey of the Soul (Chal Hamsa Nij Desh: O, Swan-Soul Return to Your Abode)

Concentrating the Mind, Retracing the Consciousness from the Body, and Stepping up the Ladder Inside — That is How One Reaches the Door of Liberation.
“Generally it happens that after a true Mahatma leaves this world, the disciples forget his real teachings and get involved in rituals. Like this the greedy world forgot the real teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and turned the faith into shops to earn money.”
“The power of Naam [the Sound Current, Shabad] is within everyone, but its secret is known to very few. It is beyond the expansion of words. All persons following the mind are stuck in the world and cannot vacate the nine doors [of the senses] to know Its Secret.”
“Stuck in worldly affairs and unaware of God, we continue sleeping. We do not clean our temple (mind). Our real Friend is the Supreme Soul, so understanding His Status and Power, we should welcome Him. He comes to us and extends a friendly hand, but stuck in attachments, we do not even look up.”
“The bani [hymn] referring to Paori, which has already been explained (above), means a ladder (meditation) which takes us from one level to the next higher level; and this is to be practiced in our day to day life. Using the example of a ladder, Tulsi Sahib, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Dadu Sahib, Kabir Sahib, and other Mahatmas have referred to the ‘Inner Ladder’. It passes through Sahans-dal Kanwal [astral, thousand petaled lotus], Trikuti [second spiritual region], and Daswan Dwar [third spiritual region, tenth gate], taking us to Bhanwargupha [fourth spiritual region]. We are to go still further to Sach Khand [fifth plane, true, eternal, timeless, spiritual realm]. The ladder has three more rungs, which take us to the Invisible [Alakh, the 6th], Inaccessible [Agam, 7th], and Nameless Region [Anami-Radhasoami, The Eighth]. Reaching there, everything ends; the drop merging in the Ocean takes the shape of the Ocean. The soul gets engrossed in the Shabad, and reaches the rooftop of the Nameless Region. Our journey comes to an end.
“Reaching that region, birth and death, pain and pleasure, etc., are no more. Only a peaceful and blissful environment exists there. The entire Bani is in the shape of Paori’s (ladders). Unfortunately, a person keeps on reading, but never thinks what the bani is trying to convey. Some rare person ponders over it and reaches his original Home — the Nameless Region.”
“Palak Ram then says to Tulsi Sahib: ‘Through your explanations, I can now follow the hidden secrets of Sant Mat taught by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. I was under the false impression that reading the Paori of Gurbani [hymns, scriptures] was the way to liberation, but you have made it clear to me that by getting Naam from the Master, concentrating the mind, retracing the consciousness from the body, and stepping up the ladder inside; that is how one reaches the door of liberation.’”
— From the Conversations between Param Sant Tulsi Sahib and Palak Ram, the Nanak Panthi, in the Ghat Ramayan of Sant Tulsi Sahib, with commentary by Baba Kehar Singh: http://www.Scribd.com/doc/130801528/Ghat-Ramayan-Tulsi-Sahib-Commentary
The Way Out Is Within: "The practitioner can easily realize the most subtle God, the Divine Reality. That Divine Reality is even beyond the reach of gods such as Brahma. That Divine Reality is beyond the scope of human sight, hearing, taste and all human senses. The Divine Reality is even beyond the grasp of the mind and intellect. The Divine Reality can only be attained by a practitioner through diligent and steadfast meditation." (Swami Vyasanand Ji Maharaj)
"The attainment of the Region of Spirit is the thing that is required, for it can lead to the Abode of Perpetual Joy and Supreme Happiness, even while living in this physical body. It is only by riding the Current of the Holy Naam (the Eternal Music within man), that this state is reached, with the help of a true Master. The Holy Naam — the Word — comes down from the highest spiritual planes, the Region of Truth, into the material planes.
“It is the saving lifeline that can carry souls into the plane beyond the reach of dissolution. All other means fall short of the goal.
“The Kingdom of God is within you; you may seek it there. It is within your finite body that communion with the Word can be held. This ultimately brings you to the Region of Infinite Truth — Sach Khand.”
— The Soul’s Journey, based on the Teachings of Kirpal Singh — This book contains several descriptions of the Inner Realms — including a conversation between Robert Redeen and Kirpal Singh recorded September 2nd, 1970 in Dehradun: http://www.Scribd.com/doc/117731683/The-Soul-s-Journey-based-on-the-Teachings-of-Kirpal-Singh
I LAUGH when I hear that the fish in the water is thirsty:
You do not see that the Real is in your home, and you wander from forest to forest listlessly!
Here is the truth! Go where you will, to Benares or to Mathura; if you do not find your soul, the world is unreal to you.
What Is Real Never Ceases — Bhagavad Gita
Says Maharshi Mehi Paramhans: “Truth is always triumphant; non-truth is conquered. The literal and essential meaning of Truth is ‘that which always is, is permanent, is eternal, and which never lacks.’ In the Bhagavad Gita Lord Krishna explains the nature of Truth to Arjuna (2:16): ‘The unreal [that which does not exist] never is. The Real [that which truly exists] never ceases to be. The conclusion concerning these two is truly perceived by the seers of Truth.’ Truth (Sat) is always triumphant; non-truth is conquered.” (Philosophy Of Liberation/Moksha Darshan)
The Self dwells in the house of the body,
Which passes through childhood, youth, and old age.
So passes the Self at the time of death
Into another body. The wise know this truth
And are not deceived by it.
When the senses come in contact with sense-objects
They give rise to feelings of heat and cold,
Pleasure and pain, which come and go.
Accept them calmly, as do the wise.
The wise, who live free from pleasure and pain,
Are worthy of immortality.
What is real never ceases to be.
The unreal never is. The sages
Who realize the Self know the secret
Of what is and what is not.
Know that the Self, the ground of existence,
Can never be destroyed or diminished.
For the changeless cannot be changed.
Bodies die, not the Self that dwells therein.
Know the Self to be beyond change and death.
Therefore strive to realize this Self.
Those who look upon the Self as slayer
Or as slain have not realized the Self.
How can the Self be killed or kill
When there is only One?
Never was the Self born; never shall it
Cease to be. Without beginning or end,
Free from birth, free from death, and free from time,
How can the Self die when the body dies?
Who knows the Self to be birthless, deathless,
Not subject to the tyranny of time,
How can the Self slay or cause to be slain?
Even as we cast off worn-out garments
And put on new ones, so casts off the Self
A worn-out body and enters into
Another that is new.
Not pierced by arrows nor burnt by fire,
Affected by neither water nor wind,
The Self is not a physical creature.
Not wounded, not burnt, not wetted, not dried,
The Self is ever and everywhere,
Immovable and everlasting.
The Self cannot be known by the senses,
Nor thought by the mind, nor caught by time.
If you know this, you will not grieve.
Even if you mistake the Self to be
Subject to birth and death, you must not grieve.
For death is certain for those who are born,
As rebirth is certain for those who die.
Why grieve over what cannot be avoided?
We perceive creatures only after birth,
And after they die we perceive them not.
They are manifest only between birth
And death. In this there is no cause for grief.
Some there are who have realized the Self
In all its wonder. Others can speak of it
As wonderful. But there are many
Who don’t understand even when they hear.
Deathless is the Self in every creature.
Know this truth, and leave all sorrow behind.
— Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita,
(Eknath Easwaran translation)
"The Light of one soul is equal to that of sixteen suns." (Book of Anurag Sagar, The Ocean of Love)
"My real happiness lies in the supreme ‘Self.’ And the rest in this world is nothing but distress. With one’s mind, voice and deeds, one should remember Raam with a pious heart. Kabir Saheb says: ‘The essence of life is in remembering God only.’" (Kabir 1008 Vani, compiled by Lalchand Doohan Jigyasu, translated by Kunwar Anil Kumar, Manoj Publications, Delhi)
The Jewel (the Soul) Lost in the Mud
The jewel is lost in the mud,
and all are seeking for it;
Some look for it in the east,
and some in the west;
some in the water
and some amongst stones.
But the servant Kabir
has appraised it at its true value,
and has wrapped it with care
in the mantle of his heart.
"When the pearl is cast down into the mud, it becomes greatly despised, nor if it is anointed with balsam oil will it become more precious. But it always has value in the eyes of its owner. Compare the children of God: wherever they may be, they still have value in the eyes of their Father. (Gospel of Philip, Nag Hammadi Library)
There is Light in the Darkness — And Sound in the Silence (Surat Shabd Yoga: Inner Light and Sound Meditation)
"I am glad to note that you saw stars, sun and moon as well as the Form of the Master, and heard the Sound of conch-shell. In future, when you see stars just try to pick out a big star among them and fix your inner gaze into the middle thereof. It will grow brighter and ultimately burst to give you further way up. If, however, you see the sun and the moon within you, just look into the middle thereof. That will also give you a way up. But when you see the Form of the Master within, just absorb yourself sweetly into It, so much so that you forget yourself. That will develop receptivity in you and the Master will speak to you as He does outside." (Kirpal Singh)
"The inner Light does not come or go. It is always there within. It appears only when we are attuned and concentrated and disappears as soon as there is the slightest dispersion. The Light will not vanish if you just keep your inner gaze constantly fixed." (Kirpal Singh, Spiritual Elixir, Published by Ruhani Satsang)
Upanishads: “Oh God, lead me from untruth to Truth, from darkness to Light, and from death to Immortality.”
Quran: “Those who have faith in Allah, then Allah is their protector and helper. Allah takes them from darkness to Light.”
Yeshua in, The Book of Pistis Sophia (Gnostic Gospel of Faith Wisdom): “Do not cease seeking day or night and do not let yourselves relax until you find the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Light, which will purify you and make you into pure Light and lead you into the Kingdom of Light.”
"When the practitioner collects and joins both the currents of consciousness at a Single Point within, as taught by the Master, in a state of complete concentration, the veil of darkness breaks and he views the Refulgent Light. There he hears many melodious Inner Sounds. With the Master’s benevolence, he identifies the Quintessential Sound centered amongst those other Sounds. And with the help of that Quintessential Inner Sound, the practitioner’s consciousness ascends to the Soundness Realm. He knows soul and Supreme Soul by experience, attaining salvation in the Living State itself, and thus he becomes the Supreme Master. This is the ultimate Level of knowledge in which Light and Sound play the principal role." (Swami Ashutosh)
"The knowledge of the soul and Supreme Soul is the highest level of knowledge for human beings. It uplifts us from earthly suffering, births and deaths to the State of Salvation (i.e. Moksha, Nirvana)." (Swami Ashutosh)

Some in the Sant Mat world are mindful of what the scientific community is saying about a quantum theory for the soul’s existence, micro-tubules, reality at the quantum level, and spiritual consciousness studies. There are recent articles on this theme of Quantum Consciousness, Sant Mat Meditation and Radhasoami Reality.
Scientists Offer Quantum Theory of Soul’s Existence
World-renowned quantum scientists say they can prove the existence of the soul.
American Dr Stuart Hameroff and British physicist Sir Roger Penrose developed a quantum theory of consciousness asserting that our souls are contained inside structures called microtubules which live within our brain cells.
Their idea stems from the notion of the brain as a biological computer, “with 100 billion neurons and their axonal firings and synaptic connections acting as information networks”.
Dr Hameroff, Professor Emeritus at the Departments of Anesthesiology and Psychology and Director of the Centre of Consciousness Studies at the University of Arizona, and Sir Roger have been working on the theory since 1996.
They argue that our experience of consciousness is the result of quantum gravity effects inside these microtubules - a process they call orchestrated objective reduction (Orch-OR).
In a near-death experience the microtubules lose their quantum state, but the information within them is not destroyed. Or in layman’s terms, the soul does not die but returns to the universe.
Dr Hameroff explained the theory at length in the Morgan Freeman-narrated documentary Through the Wormhole, which aired in the US by the Science Channel.
‘“Let’s say the heart stops beating, the blood stops flowing, the microtubules lose their quantum state,” Dr Hameroff said.
"The quantum information within the microtubules is not destroyed, it can’t be destroyed, it just distributes and dissipates to the universe at large.
'If the patient is resuscitated, revived, this quantum information can go back into the microtubules and the patient says “I had a near death experience”.'
In the event of the patient’s death, it was “possible that this quantum information can exist outside the body indefinitely — as a soul”.
Dr Hameroff believes new findings about the role quantum physics plays in biological processes, such as the navigation of birds, adds weight to the theory.
Scientists unveil quantum theory of soul’s existence
A near-death experience occurs when quantum substances which form the soul leave the nervous system and enter the universe at large, according to a ground-breaking theory proposed by two eminent scientists.
According to this idea, consciousness is a programme for a quantum computer in the brain which can persist in the universe even after death, explaining the perceptions of those who have near-death experiences.
Dr Stuart Hameroff, Professor Emeritus at the Departments of Anesthesiology and Psychology and the Director of the Centre of Consciousness Studies at the University of Arizona, has advanced the quasi-religious theory, the Daily Mail reported.
It is based on a quantum theory of consciousness he and British physicist Sir Roger Penrose have developed which holds that the essence of our soul is contained inside structures called microtubules within brain cells.
They have argued that our experience of consciousness is the result of quantum gravity effects in these microtubules, a theory which they dubbed orchestrated objective reduction (Orch-OR).
Thus it is held that our souls are more than the interaction of neurons in the brain. They are in fact constructed from the very fabric of the universe - and may have existed since the beginning of time.
The concept is similar to the Buddhist and Hindu belief that consciousness is an integral part of the universe - and indeed that it is really all there may be, a position similar to Western philosophical idealism, the paper said.
With these beliefs, Hameroff holds that in a near-death experience the microtubules lose their quantum state, but the information within them is not destroyed. Instead it merely leaves the body and returns to the cosmos.
"Let’s say the heart stops beating, the blood stops flowing, the microtubules lose their quantum state. The quantum information within the microtubules is not destroyed, it can’t be destroyed, it just distributes and dissipates to the universe at large," Hameroff told the Science Channel’s Through the Wormhole documentary.
"If the patient is resuscitated, revived, this quantum information can go back into the microtubules and the patient says ‘I had a near death experience’," Hameroff said.
"If they’re not revived, and the patient dies, it’s possible that this quantum information can exist outside the body, perhaps indefinitely, as a soul," Hameroff added.

Seven Things I Believe (and Experience)
*1) God is Real.
*2) God is Love, the Ocean of Love and Compassion.
*3) All of the world scriptures teach about the same manifestation of God as inner mystical Light and Sound.
*4) Our true identity is soul, the Self. Soul is part of God and therefore is, like God, pure love.
*5) During this human existence we have an opportunity to experience God.
*6) As we experience communing with God’s love during meditation – Surat Shabd Yoga, we can rise above body-consciousness and explore Inner Space, the “Kingdom of the Heavens” that are within us. “We travel back from the realm of Darkness to the realm of Light, from the Light to divine Sound, and from the realm of Sound to the Soundless State.” (Swami Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj) The drop merges back into the Ocean of Love.
*7) As we get initiated into the Mysteries of the Spirit by a Living Teacher (Sant Satguru), the purpose of our life is fulfilled. Reuniting with God is our reason to be here: “It was for the sake of the God-conscious beings that our True Lord created this earth, and began this play of death and birth.” (Adi Granth) Kabir said, “For millions of years you have slept. This morning, will you not wake?”
"All beautiful forms and tones of this world are mere reflections of some aspect of that ultimate Love-Music of the Great Creative Word. Within the vast complex of creation, each individual spirit is himself/herself a spark of that Eternal Song of Love."
"There are those who have wandered among the darting comets and the shimmering orbs of sounding fire. The soul-explorer is not alone, for there are those who have traveled the highways of the inner cosmos; far more than one may at first realize."
"...The planes of heaven are about us everywhere. One has only to know this simple truth consciously, and then we will be free." (George Arnsby Jones)
